Renew My Church:
We begin the phase 4
After the decisions of our Cardinal Cupich regarding our
grouping Marquette and our parish, we begin the phase 4 of
Renew My Church. This phase will plan the transition toward the
new reality: adapting the staff to the needs, proposing changes for schedules and timing for the liturgical life of the parish, as well as choosing the new name for the new parish without changing the name of the two churches.
As you know, after a process of discernment and prayer involving all the parishes of the Marquette grouping, Cardinal Cupich decided to unite Queen of the Universe parish and St. Adrian parish, beginning July 1st. Both churches will remain open and active for ministry and services. Father José, until now pastor at Queen of the Universe, will be the pastor of this new parish.

Appointment of Father José
Since the decision to unite with our fellow Catholic brothers and sisters to form a new parish, a big question has been, “Who will be the pastor of the new parish?”
Cardinal Cupich is pleased to announce the appointment of Fr. Jose Murcia Abellan as pastor of the new parish beginning July 1, 2018. Fr. Jose is currently the pastor of Queen of the Universe and knows the surrounding parishes and communities well.
The Cardinal, the entire Renew My Church team, and I are excited to see the future of our parish under Fr. Jose’s pastoral care. This is a special time in the life of our Church, and I ask that you continue to pray for me, for Fr. Jose, and all of our priests in the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Renueva mi Iglesia:
Iniciamos la fase numero 4

Tras las decisiones de nuestro Cardenal Cupich referentes a nuestro grupo Marquette y a nuestra parroquia en concreto, inicamos la fase 4 de Renueva Mi Iglesia. Esta fase tiene como fin planear la transición hacia la nueva realidad: adaptar las necesidades de personal, analizar y proponer cambios en los horarios de la vida liturgica de la parroquia, así como elegir un nuevo nombre para la nueva parroquia que nace sin cambiar el nombre de los respetivos templos que la comprenden.
Como saben, tras un proceso de discernimiento y oración que ha envuelto a todas las parroquias de la agrupación Marquette, el Cardenal Cupich ha decidido que, iniciando el 1 de Julio de 2018, la parroquia de Reina del Universo y la parroquia de San Adrián se unirán para convertirse en una nueva parroquia permaneciendo los dos templos activos para culto y ministerio. El padre José, actualmente nuestro párroco de Reina del Universo, será el nuevo párroco de esa nueva parroquia

Nombramiento del Padre Jose
Desde la decisión de unir nuestra parroquia para formar con San Adrián una nueva parroquia, la gran pregunta ha sido ¿quién será el párroco de la nueva parroquia? El Cardenal Cupich se complace en anunciar el nombramiento del Padre José A. Murcia Abellán como párroco de la nueva parroquia iniciando el 1 de Julio de 2018. EL Padre José es actualmente párroco de Reina del Universo y conoce las parroquias y comunidades circundantes.
El Cardenal, el equipo de Renueva mi Iglesia, y yo mismo, estamos ilusionados de ver el futuro de nuestra parroquia bajo el cuidado pastoral del Padre José. What is Renew my Church?
​Dear Parishioners and School Families of Queen of the Universe,
The Church in the Archdiocese of Chicago has begun a historic process of renewal and revitalization called Renew My Church. Cardinal Cupich and our regional vicar Bishop Andrew Wypych have asked our parish and school, along with St. Adrian and St. Nicholas parish, to be among the first groupings to begin the discernment and planning process that is part of Renew My Church. We will do so during the second half of this year. Two Groupings, one in West Humboldt Park and the other on the North Shore, are currently piloting this process, and their experiences will help refine the process we will follow. Four other groupings from around the archdiocese will also begin the process at the same time as we do.
What is Renew My Church?
Renew My Church calls us to take up the mission of Christ in a fresh way – to respond to the signs of our times so that across the entire archdiocese we are a vibrant and life-giving Church, built of communities filled with vitality that inspire discipleship now and for generations to come. Cardinal Cupich has grounded Renew My Church in the experience and inspiration of St. Francis of Assisi. In his time, St. Francis heard Christ’s call to him to “Rebuild My Church.” Francis came to understand that Christ was not calling him to just rebuild a physical structure but to renew and revitalize the faith of the people of the Church and the world. His namesake, Pope Francis, now urges us to do the same in our own time, making the Church a leaven that can transform the world.
What does this mean for us?
Practically, this means that our parish and school, along with St. Adrian and St. Nicholas parish, will enter a period and process of prayerful discernment beginning later this Summer and into the Fall. We will be asked to honestly assess our current and future challenges, identify strengths and opportunities to build on, and evaluate how we may need to operate differently as Church to best serve our mission. These will be challenging and exciting discussions about how we move into the future as the Church of our local area.
I will be meeting soon with our regional bishop, the other pastors and principals in our grouping, and staff from the archdiocese to learn more details about the process. I will provide you with updates as I learn more. Let us hold each other and the other parish and school communities in our grouping in prayer as we enter this time of discernment and planning for the future.

¿Qué es Renueva mi Iglesia?
Queridos Feligreses y padres de familia de Reina del Universo,
La Arquidiócesis de Chicago ha comenzado un proceso histórico de renovación y revitalización llamado Renueva Mi Iglesia. El Cardenal Cupich y nuestro Obispo Vicario Regional Andrew Wypych han pedido a nuestra parroquia y la escuela, junto a las parroquias San Adrián y San Nicolás, ser parte de los primeros agrupamientos para iniciar el proceso de planificación y de discernimiento como parte del proceso de Renueva Mi Iglesia. Daremos inicio al proceso durante la segunda parte de este año. Dos grupos, uno en West Humboldt Park y el otro en el nordeste de la Arquidiócesis, actualmente están pilotando este proceso, y sus experiencias ayudarán a perfeccionar el proceso que vamos a seguir. Otros cuatro agrupamientos de la arquidiócesis también iniciarán el proceso al mismo tiempo que nosotros.
¿Qué es Renueva Mi Iglesia?
El proceso Renueva Mi Iglesia nos invita a asumir la misión de Cristo de un modo nuevo, a responder a los signos de los tiempos, para que así toda la arquidiócesis sea una Iglesia renovada y dador de vida - construida de comunidades llenas de vitalidad que inspiren al discipulado de hoy y de las nuevas generaciones. El Cardenal Cupich ha basado el proceso Renueva Mi Iglesia en base a la experiencia e inspiración de San Francisco de Asís. En su tiempo, San Francisco de Asís escuchó el llamado que Cristo le hizo de “Repara Mi Iglesia”. San Francisco entendió el llamado, que no solo era solamente para reconstruir la iglesia físicamente, sino también para renovar y revitalizar la Fe de los fieles de la iglesia y del mundo entero. Su homónimo, el Papa Francisco, ahora nos invita a hacer lo mismo, pero en nuestra propia época, haciendo que la Iglesia sea como la levadura que ayude a transformar el mundo.
¿Qué significa esto para nosotros?
Prácticamente, esto significa que nuestra parroquia con la escuela, San Adrián y San Nicolás entrará en un periodo y proceso de oración y de discernimiento comenzando a finales del verano a principios del otoño. Se nos pedirá, evaluar honestamente a nuestros desafíos actuales y futuros, a identificar nuestras fortalezas y nuestras necesidades para trabajar en ellas, y así evaluar como necesitaremos operar como Iglesia para servir mejor a nuestra misión. Sin duda alguna, tendremos debates intensos llenos de desafíos acerca de cómo nos dirigimos al futuro como Iglesia en nuestra área local.
Pronto me reuniré con nuestro obispo regional, párrocos, directores de nuestro agrupamiento y el personal de la Arquidiócesis para conocer más a fondo los detalles de este proceso. Les daré informes en cuanto tenga más información. Les pido que nos mantengamos en oración a nuestra parroquia, nuestra escuela y oremos uno por el otro y por nuestro agrupamiento, a medida que nos adentramos en este proceso de discernimiento y planificación de nuestro futuro.
