The General Introduction of the Roman Missal says, “The altar should, moreover, be so placed as to be truly the center toward which the attention of the whole congregation of the faithful naturally turns.” (IMR III 299) That is why, taking advantage that the Altar needed repairs, we have moved it a little bit forward and we have placed a few pews around the presbytery. This way we can see clearly what is the Altar, as the Catechism of the Catholic Church says, “The altar, around which the Church is gathered in the celebration of the Eucharist, represents the two aspects of the same mystery: the altar of the sacrifice and the table of the Lord” (CCC 1383). In this wonderful day of the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ we center our attention to the Altar of the Lord and we gather around Him to adore the Lord present in the Eucharist.
La Introducción al Misal Romano manda que “el altar ocupe el lugar que sea de verdad el centro hacia el que espontáneamente converja la atención de toda la asamblea de los fieles.” (IMR III 299) Es por eso que el altar se adentra en la asamblea, situando también a los lados del presbiterio algunas bancas. Así se expresa más claramente lo que es el altar, como nos enseña el Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica al decir que “El altar, en torno al cual la Iglesia se reúne en la celebración de la Eucaristía, representa los dos aspectos de un mismo misterio: el altar del sacrificio y la mesa del Señor” (CCC 1383).
